Today is Frost''s Descent, or Shuang Jiang (霜降), the 18th solar term of the year and the last of autumn. It begins this year on October 23 and ends on November 6.

During this time, the weather becomes much colder than before and frost starts to appear. As Frost''s Descent comes, the world brims with the atmosphere of late autumn.

Suzhou saw a sharp drop in temperature last week. As osmanthus flower finally blooms, the long-waited sweet scent fills the air across the city. You can drop by Guihua Park, the Lingering Garden, the Master-of-Nets Garden and other spots to admire the city flower.

Frost''s Descent is also the time when chrysanthemums are in full blossom. The ancients once said, "Frost heralds the flowering of chrysanthemum." Therefore appreciating chrysanthemums has become a unique event for this season. Chrysanthemum exhibitions will be held to express people''s affection and respect for this flower.

As the old saying goes, "It is better to nourish the body during Frost''s Descent than in winter." Frost''s Descent witnesses the ripeness of persimmon. Eating persimmons during this period can help people resist the cold and protect the bones. Besides, as the weather gets colder, more and more local people in Suzhou choose to eat mutton and drink mutton soup to warm their body and heart.

Remember to pay attention to the weather condition, add clothes accordingly and do more exercise. To prevent autumn dryness, you can eat more moist food, such as pear, grapefruit, orange, etc.
